General Ledger General Ledger contains the central granules in Navision Financials - totally integrated with all other granules. All general ledger debits and credits are recorded here, and there are many facilities for both internal and external analysis. You can produce financial statements - profit/loss, balance sheet, and cash flow - all following FASB 95 standards. Throughout Navision Financials, department and project codes can be used to indicate the profit center for financial reporting. Within the general ledger, these profit center dimensions can be combined on screen or in reports to provide summarized information or a side-by-side comparison of profit centers. Sales & Receivables The integrated structure of Navision Financials transforms accounts receivable into customer management with the ability to automate every aspect of your customer relationships. The Sales & Receivables areas have facilities for complete customer and sales management - even in an international environment. Sales & Receivables also provide customer aging, sales statistics, and other summary or detailed reporting on customers. Purchases & Payables To take advantage of potential vendor discounts and to avoid paying invoices too early or too late, you need accounts payable functionality that gives you a complete overview of your business as well as direct access to detailed transactions. Navision Financials provides all these capabilities and more in the Purchases & Payables areas. Purchases & Payables also offer efficient features for managing payments to vendors and for reordering. Purchases & Payables are fully integrated with the General Ledger and Inventory granules and can use the department, project and inventory location dimensions. Fixed Assets Navision Financials has a fully integrated Fixed Assets application area. Fixed assets are a valuable part of any company. But managing them effectively can easily tie up considerable resources. This is why the Fixed Assets application area provides essential functions to help you manage fixed assets quickly and with a minimum of effort. For example, you can keep track of all information relevant to fixed assets, such as maintenance costs, acquisition costs and insurance policies. In addition, the real-time nature of Fixed Asset facilities means that your periodic income and expense figures are always accurate and up-to-date. Inventory The Inventory granules let you keep detailed records of purchases, sales, and positive and negative transactions. Basic Inventory includes an item table and ledger to record transaction details, which you can use to provide simple pricing capabilities for inventory items. Or, if you include Sales Order and Purchase Order, you can use it as a complete inventory management system with availability controls that let you schedule each sales and purchase transaction for minimum inventory levels without compromising on customer service. Resource Management Resources are one of the most valuable commodities in a business. Optimizing the use of people and equipment is performed with the Resource Management granules. Not only can you track the cost and usage of resources, but you can also set resource capacities and then predict and manage availability of resources. The Resource granules also allow for flexible pricing models to make invoicing in Sales & Receivables or recording costs for a job even easier. Job Cost Having detailed accounting of all cost and billings for a project or job is the purpose of the Job Cost granules. The Job Cost granules can reduce the amount of detail you need to maintain in the general ledger. As costs are incurred on a job, they are recorded in the job ledger, as well as passed to the other areas of the system, such as accounts payable for the vendor. This prevents costs from going unbilled. Then billing is automatic for all costs that are chargeable. You can use the Job Cost granules for traditional construction job costing or for service-oriented time and billing. Payroll/Human Resources The Payroll granules let you produce paychecks and maintain all the pay and tax records for employees. Flexible payroll setup allows for handling virtually any pay rate, tax rate, deductions or contribution calculation. The system includes some human resource management capabilities like tracking pay rate changes, vacation time and sick time. The Human Resources granules let you keep employee files complete with confidential information and equipment issued, track absences, and keep complete documentation on employees. Also included are reports that list and analyze human resources information. Contact Management The Contact Management application area lets you gather information about all of your contacts, including customers, vendors and prospects, all in one place. This allows you to cultivate repeat business as well as new business. Contact Management also lets you assign your contacts to various target groups, then set up campaigns for marketing programs and sales activities using those groups. Multi-Currency Functionality & Euro Support Navision Financials supports multiple-currency functionality in the general ledger. Users are able to display general ledger balances in their base currency as well as an alternate reporting currency, with online inquiries and printed reports showing side-by-side currency amounts for account comparisons. Thus, companies will be able to issue reports, such as financial statements in either their base national currency while maintaining the Euro as the standard currency in the general ledger.
Navision Financials Multi-Currency functionality provides the ability to restate G/L balances in two currencies, with online inquiries and printed reports showing side-by-side currency amounts for account comparisons. The Integrated Development Environment The core of Navision Financials is its Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Since this environment is designed for a client/server structure, we have combined these concepts in the name - C/SIDE. C/SIDE consists of three central systems that make the complete solution a fully integrated unit, from the database to the last modifications to the application: 4GL Development SystemThe development system contains the object designers and tools that are used to construct and program the application. The application code is very easy to maintain and customize according to your own needs.
Database Management System The database management system (DBMS) contains the database itself and the control functions that ensure the best possible coordination between users and the database operations. The DBMS in Navision Financials was developed specifically to fulfill the demands of a client/server architecture.
An accounting and business management solution has special requirements for data utilization and calculation, and the Navision Financials database has been designed for just these functions. This was done for the benefit of the user who has several special facilities for filtering information and calculating figures very quickly. This was also done for the benefit of developers and programmers who can very simply create new functions based on the totaling and updating of figures. This special technology is called SIFT: Sum-Indexed Flow Technology. SIFT is based on extra dimensions in the database and a unique principle for processing sums and other statistics, including minimum, maximum, average, and count. This means that the statistics used in the application are always fully-updated in the database. When you want to see or work with a statistic, it does not need to be generated from a large number of database entries. it can be produced immediately, fully updated, every time you open a window or filter a statistical field. Client/Server Communication SystemThe client/server system is the medium of communication between the desktop computer and the database. This system ensures that network traffic is limited. The structure distributes operations efficiently between the client and the server.
